The renovation enhances the Fuller Garden Court, the historic building’s central hub, and provides access to galleries from multiple points. The floor is the original stone floor, and the walls are composed of the original restored scagliola plaster, imitating a faux travertine finish. The historic Art Deco entry, Fuller Garden Court, and the Park Lobby create a circulation spine with views of the park to the east and the west, rejuvenating the building’s connection to the park and the community. The grand opening provided a space to hang the contemporary light sculpture “Gather” created by artist Kenzan Tsutakawa-Chinn in the Fuller Garden Court.

In addition to the façade restoration work, major upgrades were completed to the walls, floors, and ceiling elements in the existing galleries to modernize the space to be structurally sound and meet code requirements. The gallery floors are new hardboard Masonite tiles to match the original ones that were removed due to damage and were not able to be refinished.

The renovation provides daylight to the octagonal galleries with light boxes built into the ceiling that emulate natural daylight. This artificial lighting allows the museum to set the stage for new art, better preserve their collection, and provide newfound flexibility for future displays.
