Project Name: JPMorgan Chase – Denver Market Station
Project Statement: Anticipating the enduring relevance of hybrid work, this financial management client enlisted our design team to fundamentally reimagine its executive workplace and client center in Denver. The goal of the redesign was to create a dynamic, innovative environment that supports productivity and wellbeing in equal measure while blurring boundaries between client hospitality areas, employee socialization spaces, and work zones.
The project team delivered a purposeful, hospitality-forward destination that caters to—and fosters collaboration between—staff members and clients. The team was able to maximize square footage devoted to social interaction by transitioning to a free-address system, halving the amount of traditional desking, and integrating alternative work points into strategic locations throughout.
A co-working lounge for employees and clients features flexible furniture arrangements to accommodate various group sizes and activities, from impromptu meetings to casual conversations, and helps build community. Adaptability also informed the design of the multipurpose boardroom, which can open onto reception and a secondary break-out space to serve as a pre-function and event venue for TED Talks, educational sessions, and social gatherings. This built-in flexibility allows the space to adapt seamlessly to different event sizes, ensuring it is always utilized to its fullest potential, regardless of the occasion.
Our team provided varied environments for focusing or casual meetings by incorporating alternate work points into new libraries, lounges, and open collaboration zones. All spaces are equipped with advanced technology to facilitate seamless connectivity and productivity. And when staff members and visitors desire a moment to unplug and recharge, an art gallery encourages moments of respite and reflection.
Just as the spatial layout and furniture scheme artfully balances contrasts, so does the design language. Numerous elements draw inspiration from Denver’s unique geographical position at the intersection of the prairie and the mountains. Soft, flowing mesh screens in reception and pre-function areas evoke the prairie grasses, imparting a welcoming and organic feel that counters the urban setting. These screens not only add visual interest but also acoustically soften the space, enhancing comfort. Angular inverse features mimic skylights, reflecting the mountain peaks, creating the illusion of natural light and promoting a connection with the outdoors.
Materials chosen for the project likewise emphasize the dramatic natural contrasts inherent to the area’s landscape. A mix of raw and refined, light and dark, textured and smooth materials creates a visually stimulating yet refreshing environment. Thoughtful layering enhances the sensory experience and imbues a sense of depth and complexity. An earthy palette of exposed concrete and reclaimed wood, paired with polished metals and glass, establishes a sense of harmony and reflects other sustainable practices employed in the project, highlighting the client’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
