Project Name: Sumas Elementary

Project Statement: Sumas Elementary School is a brand new 47,476 Sq. Ft. elementary school located in Sumas, Washington. The school has wood framed construction atop cast-in-place concrete crawlspace walls with perimeter flood vents to accommodate potential flooding and the passage of water under the building. The interior is accented with clerestory windows, wood slat ceilings, and bright and colorful accents indicative of a fun learning environment. The extended learning configuration created areas for smalls groups to gather to read or focus on more individualized instruction. Calm, contemporary classrooms create nurturing environments for student and faculty alike by providing built-in cabinetry and smart TVs for efficient teacher storage and technology-driven learning methods. There are dedicated classrooms for all ages, including special education spaces and services. The project also included new common spaces such as a library, music room, kitchen, associated administrative offices and a multi-purpose gymnasium/cafeteria/stage centrally located to provide connectivity through the building.
